Water Is Life

A glass of water seems so simple, but it's something many of us take for granted. Yet inside that clear, ordinary miracle is the story of every forest, every child, every migrating bird, every seed waiting for rain, and our future.
Water is life in motion. It awakens the soil to nourish the seed, carries minerals through roots, cools cities, fills rivers and lakes to support wildlife, grows food, and holds entire communities together. We can live without many modern comforts, but we cannot live without clean water.
When we speak about protecting nature, we are also speaking about protecting the source of our own survival.
The river, the marsh, the old-growth forest, the underground aquifer, and the oceans are all part of one living system. If one part suffers, the rest feels it. I was in Tanzania a few years ago and my outfitters ran out of water on the tallest mountain in Africa. That was an unexpected issue considering the glacier above is cut a river so deep in the mountain, it made cliffs. Women and children we passed on the rural roads near Arusha were constantly carrying empty plastic jugs, local people and their livestock desperately needed a drink of water, but less than two weeks after the rainy season, the riverbed was as dry as a bone.
A few years ago, I went down a HUGE rabbit hole about water. It kept me up at night, reading about the many ways we are literally poisoning ourselves. I have no intention on preaching to you or anyone else about all the things, but this one is not up for debate. We have to stop waiting for others to figure this one out, because no one is coming to save us.
The Cure new release, (get your copy now) might really piss you off. It might wake you up or perhaps even inspire you to change direction? All I hope is that you, and I both stop waiting for an imaginary hero to come fix things and actually do something to slow the climate change process down. This planet is in big trouble and we need to stop wasting time and come together.
Unless you're a lizard person, then by all means, carry on.
Water sustains so much more than we can see. You might argue that I'm not an expert in ecology or environmental science. This is all true. What I do know is this... stories are the spark that cut through the noise, that help us see what is at stake and to empower us whenever fear sets in.
If the spirit moves you to read, recommend to a friend, and leave a review for The Cure. I would be grateful. If you are The Literati, reach out to me if you wish to read this title for free.
Water is life. That truth is both ancient and urgent. Let it guide the way we garden, build, vote, teach, buy, and care for the precious land around us. The next time water runs from the tap, pause for a breath of gratitude, then choose one act that gives something back without looking for anything except the knowledge that your eyes are open.
Until next time, find your Peace, Love, Hustle, and then Read or Write.
