DARK FICTION FOR WOMEN WHO AREN'T AFRAID OF THE SHADOWS

“In the machine, hope is our only chance for survival.”
― Bibiana Krall, Quantum-C
Bibiana writes Speculative fiction and Gothic stories side-by-side, and understands why the uninitiated might assume they belong to separate worlds. At first glance, they can look like totally different genres. They aren’t. They are the same spirit, moving through two lenses—psychological and futuristic, meant to apply social commentary by examining human and inhuman behavior as it is shaped, contained, and revealed by societal structures. Sometimes the distortion is internal: dread, inheritance, and obsession. Sometimes it arrives from outside of our individual place in the world: technology, institutions, or the future’s cold inevitability. In both cases, the question is the same, how do people react when the rules change, and what do systems do to the people existing inside them?
The paranormal is not hard science, and the future is not a fixed map. We have no failproof method for knowing what’s coming, or verifying what’s not yet possible to measure. Still, we can do something precise: consider logical outcomes, follow the consequences of technology, explore alternate histories, and practice the difficult art of navigation, in how to move through mystery when “evidence” is not the only kind of truth. Her stories are built for that practice. They don’t just entertain dread; theyinterrogate it. They invite readers to step closer to the imagined, so they can recognize the real pressures waiting just beyond the page.
