    Hard Pivot

To say the past month has been crazy is like saying that Jack in Stephen King's classic, "The Shining" is having a rough day... My Great-grandfather Claude, the one who inspired parts of Carolina Spirit, the one who tried to talk Gracie into planting a peach pit in the crotch of a tree. He used to tell me, 'A person isn't worth a damn until they've been tested to their limit. When they brush off the dirt and have something good left in them, that's character.' Have to say I

Happy New Year! 2022 has the possibly of being better than last year purely by default, but I hope we take the reins and do our best to make it more positive and affirming with the things that we can control. Ourselves and our reactions. That's the list. As you read this post, I am jumping in the Atlantic Ocean (water temp on the island at 8:47 a.m. was 63 F and air temp 66 F) with my awesome family to celebrate a new beginning and to symbolically start a clean slate. This ye

    HUNGER

Hunger. Veins like concrete. Steel mesh on my soul. Move like a verge. These chambers. Emptiness feels so cold. Eyes a path, doorways to beyond. Eternal crumbs. Burning boughs. Fire in the matter. Ashes in the why. Take flight. Your solitary journey. Again and again. Be bold. ©2021 Bibiana Krall. All Rights Reserved. "Coffee with Cathy." A chat with multi-genre author Cathleen Maza Well, hello there! I’m so glad you could stop by today for a little heart to heart conversation about being an author. Have a seat in my dining room, which happens to be my favorite spot to write in. As you can see, there’s lots of natural woodwork and a lovely set of leaded glass windows that overlook the yard and cottage gardens. I know it’s a bit bare out there in March, but isn’t all of the natural light am

    Bulletproof Heart

Bulletproof Heart––Keep going is the constant advice given to a writer when they’ve a rough day. It’s easier said than done and doesn’t help one lick when complex emotions might be clouding that otherwise sunny sky. How much time have you spent writing that story? Days, years… an entire lifetime? Let’s talk honestly about negative book reviews and the emotional cost of doing business as a creative in a society that’s rife with armchair critics. One of my literary idols, Harpe

Sometimes you have to let loose, forget about everything else and have an adventure. I am not sure how long we’ve known each other on Twitter? Veronica and I finally got to meet in person and as expected there were some boots involved, but alas no crowns. Next time? Along with our extremely cool husbands, we met up in Savannah this past weekend for some grown-up fun at The Mansion on Forsyth Park. We laughed, ate like kings, told spooky stories and imbibed tipsy bubbles. Life

Happy New Year! I chose 12: 30 E.S.T to pre-schedule this post, as I literally just jumped in the Atlantic Ocean with my awesome family. This is our fourteenth consecutive year. Brrr. We love the feeling of renewal and adrenaline rush. All of the toxic things that held us back the year before seem to reset and give us the courage we need to pursue our dreams. A new year in the Gregorian calendar brings new goals, new beginnings and new friends. Please take a moment to meet a

    Harvest

It’s that time of year again, the tang of apple cider tastes like home on my lips, long walks in the woods energize and chilly nights become an adventure when a throw blanket comes outside with me on the porch at night. I grew up on a farm in the Midwest where harvest and autumn was not just a season, but also a state of mind. It was the last hurrah before the winter ice and snow put the world to sleep, very much akin to the beloved fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. I liked to imag

    Southern Spinakopita

Southern Spinakopita - Today it's pushing 90 degrees again. Any sane person would have stayed inside (not me.) The car was filthy and I couldn't stand it anymore. So of course by the time I was ready to do it, it was 11:30 and so hot outside I could see the heat waves rolling on the pavement. It's all finished now and I wonder if tomorrow I should just get up before sunrise and work on the yard? Ughh. It's the only thing I like about winter in the south. Zero yard work! Yeah!

    The Art of Writing

The art of writing - Writing is an art form, painting, sculpting, music, design and yes-even living a certain way might be seen as artistry. The burning question that crossed my mind today was this. As a writer, should I strive to be more commercial and slake the thirst of the hungry masses? Or alternatively, is the perpetuation of art itself where the devotional fruit ripens? Nozomi © Percy 2019. All Rights Reserved. The books that spoke to me as a child were colorful, adven

    - Being a writer is so much more than just writing. When I am not chained to my desk editing or dreaming up new ideas, I like to explore the world, have fun and once in a while eat great food with the people I love. Cooking, baking and creating spice mixes are some of my many pleasures. Just as I experiment in my writing, I do the same in my kitchen. I create unusual flavor profiles to make my tongue and brain pop! Yeah baby, yeah! This weekend I’m super excited that I will s
